Matterport Pro3 3D camera review

There Matterport's new Pro3 3D camera is of high quality and is perfect for 3d scanning large spaces.

The latest version of camera Matterport Pro 3 , has found the right balance between quality and ease of use. During our review, we tested imaging small rooms, large spaces, and everything in between to get a full rundown of what to expect — here's what the team at Matterport Montreal deduced from it.

In our tests, we found that the Matterport Pro3 was incredibly easy to use, while producing impressive results. We recommend it to anyone who wants to start 3D imaging or those who have some experience. All around, this camera is a near-perfect option for those who need this type of image.

We chose to test this camera by testing it for a virtual tour in Montreal when scanning an office space over 50,000 sq.ft. OUR photographer 360 therefore had a full understanding of the breadth and scope of his abilities. The building itself was a perfect proving ground, offering all the necessary elements to be tested in a single space, including stairs, windows, doors, multiple floors, open plan spaces, as well as larger spaces. closed and smaller.

We set up our tripod first, then screwed the mounting piece to hold the camera to the tripod, took the camera out of the case, put the fully charged battery in, then put the camera on the stand . Then we turned on the 3d camera with a single tap and a short press of the single button on the entire camera - on the back, furthest from the lens of the3d camera. Once the camera was up and running, at the request of the companion app, we connected a mobile device to the Wi-Fi signal broadcast by the camera and returned to theMatterport 3D app.

When choosing the appropriate settings for the type of photos we wanted to take, several options were available, ranging from full scans to simple 360° images. After that we were able to press “scan” on the phone and let the camera start. In order to not be in every frame, we chose to generally walk behind the camera in a circle while it rotated on the tripod. Sometimes, however, if the opportunity presented itself, we would choose to hide behind a wall, in another room, etc.

Each photo took less than 10 to 15 seconds to complete a full rotation. Once the image or rotation was complete, a prompt on the companion app informed us that it was time to move the camera to the next location. For testing purposes, at first we took about three steps between each shot, later choosing to try about five steps between each shot to see if we could notice a significant difference in the quality of the image. While all around the photos are impressive, we noticed a sharper shot than with the Pro 2.

This camera hits a sweet spot in space3D imaging. Regardless of your knowledge of 3D imaging, or even just 360 photography, just about anyone could pick up this device and start using it with confidence and precision, because just knowing how to follow the instructions digital was more than enough.

The final image quality was impressive, to say the least. Considering how quickly we covered such a large area in such detail, we were able to get very detailed images of our test area. While this can be incredibly useful for a wide range of use cases, it's clearly designed perfectly for spaces where a walkthrough might be desired or to showcase a space. With even Google Maps having the ability to upload and use images/3D tours of buildings, this could be beneficial for almost any business that wants to be able to show what their building looks like to others.
