3D virtual tour of Atelier 25 – the new public works building of the City of Candiac

There City of Candiac entrusted Panosphere 360 with the creation of the Matterport 3D virtual tour of the’Workshop 25, its brand new Public Works Department building located at 25 Marie-Victorin Boulevard. Scheduled to open in September 2026, Workshop 25 is the the first large-scale building in Quebec constructed with heavy timber and a green roof The building has a surface area of 4,700 m², a green roof of 2,400 m², a structure that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 21.3 tons, and a rainwater harvesting system that supplies 100 cubic meters of sanitary fixtures. The project is targeting LEED v4 certification.

To introduce citizens to an exemplary municipal building

Workshop 25 brings together the teams from roads, parks, horticulture and urban forestry, snow removal, and water and sewer systems. It replaces the former municipal garage built in 1982, when Candiac had 9,000 inhabitants, compared to over 25,000 today. A building of this nature is not open to the public on a daily basis: the virtual tour allows citizens, the media, and the City's partners to explore it freely, understand where the $30.5 million investment is going, and discover the sustainable development innovations that have been integrated.

The tour highlights, in particular, the green roof and its sedums, the Oasis rainwater harvesting system room, the bioretention basins, the exposed timber structure, the specialized workshops (signaling, carpentry, mechanics, horticulture), the administrative offices, and the integrated artwork. A tailor-made virtual tour, going beyond the Matterport scan

The entire building was scanned with the camera Matterport Pro3, both inside and out, to produce a digital twin faithful and navigable. Panosphere 360 then designed a custom interface that transforms scanning into a true communication tool:

• Navigation menu in the City's colors : seven sections (Exterior, Innovations and sustainable development, Administration, Workshops, Garage, Common areas, Aerial views) and nearly 40 places accessible in one click, with automatic guidance to each point of interest.
• 360° aerial views : three panoramas captured by drone (front facade, rear facade and green roof) integrated directly into the visit, to capture the entire building and its green roof.
• More than 70 information points : interactive bubbles written by the City, with its own color and icon codes, synchronized in the tour to explain each piece of equipment and each innovation.
• Decorated to reflect the image of Candiac : logo, typography and color palette of the City, cover image and clean interface, without third-party branding.
• Customer autonomy : the municipal team can continue to enrich the information bubbles in Matterport, and the visit is updated without the public address changing.

A collaboration with the City's Communications Department

This project was carried out in close collaboration with the City of Candiac's communications team, who identified the locations to be highlighted, wrote the content for the information points, and approved each stage of the project.
